Award Winning
Honors Society Magazine
THE APPROACH
-
Unified Design System: I established a robust baseline grid and consistent typographic stylesheets in InDesign to unify disparate articles and imagery.
-
Document Architecture: I also managed the complete document structure, carefully balancing negative space to reduce the reader's cognitive load.
-
Pre-Press Quality Assurance: Before the handoff, I executed comprehensive checks, including packaging the file, resolving overprint issues, and generating a flawless, print-ready PDF to eliminate any potential production errors.
THE RESULT
The publication was awarded 2nd Place at the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) competition in 2022. The award recognized the exceptional quality of its editorial design, structural readability, and flawless print execution.
THE SCOPE
Architect the editorial layout, visual pacing, and print-ready file preparation for Labyrinth, a multi-page academic honors society magazine. Dedicated to promoting student writing and fine arts.
THE CHALLENGE
Managing Complex Content: The project required handling dense, multi-author academic material subject to strict, "untouchable" author-driven edits while organizing it into a cohesive, highly readable layout.
Technical Print Execution: The primary challenge involved managing physical publication requirements—including pagination, spread imposition, high-resolution linked assets, and ensuring strict adherence to the commercial printer's margin and bleed specifications.
THE CLIENT
Dedicated to promoting student writing and fine arts, Labyrinth showcases the intellectual and artistic talents of students in the SMCCD.
